Mandrake 10.1 (love it) working out flaws

Hey everyone,

I just installed Mandrake 10.1 download edition. I had 9.0 a long time ago but had so many problems getting windows to run along side it and I gave up. But with 10.1 it worked great! (bootloading that is).

I only have a couple things that I cant for the life of me figure out.
The first and more serious one is my internet. I'm now using a router (D-Link Di-604revE). I cant get linux to go through it at all. With windows you just popped up IE and it automatically did it all for me. I know the gateway number and everything but when i enter all the info a window pops up saying disabling IRQ #(forget) and just sits there forever. Any ideas on whats wrong?

The second thing is my sound. I'm using a Gigabyte Athlon XP motherboard with Nvida Ac97 sound i believe. I've turned up all the controls but still nothing. On one of the sound bars it even has Ac97 and I have it all turned up.

If you need anymore info I'll be happy to provide it as fast as humanly possible.

Thanks alot

Blair

For the network stuff did you try it via the command line/file editing instead of the GUI? I don't know if it's a wireless router if so I can help you with the commands but if it's not I won't be of much help

For the sound is the sound server turned on (I assume you use KDE)? You might want to try with it off if it isn't. Are the channels not only all up but also unmuted? The command line mixer is with alsamixer if you want to know for sure.

Thanks for responding.

As far as the networking goes I was trying to use the GUI. I can use the command propt if it's a way you can help me. I'm willing to try anything at this point. lol

Um yeah I'm using that sound mixer thing. All the levels are up and unmuted. I never had much of a problem with 9.0. but then again now i can use Linux and Windows with 10.1 which was my number one big linux problem.

Thanks again, cant wait to see some replies!

Is it a wireless router or not?

Can you post the output of the command
Code:
lsmod
That way we can see if you have the right modules in your kernel.

It's not a wireless router, just a regual one.

I'll try that command tonight.

The modules are there so that's not the problem. Do you have sound as root?

about the internet have u entered ur dns right ??

to test it out , type 64.233.167.104 in mozilla or konqueror

p.s. : its the ip of google , by doing this if connects to google then there is a problem with ur dns setting if it doesnt then its probably another problem

It's been about a week since I installed Mandrake and still no internet. It's really putting me back on this whole "Switch to Linux" thing I had planned.
I was wondering if anyone had any new ideas on how to get my internet working.
Thanks,
Blair
