Mandrake 10.1 installation problem

Hi,

I am new to Linux and I have been using Ubuntu and Suse for a few weeks but have decided to give Mandrake 10.1 a try.

After completing the installation the result was a black screen with GNU GRUB press tab for commands but the OS does not start.

I have tried some of the suggested commands but I am not really sure what to do.

With my installation I did erase all previous partitions and completely started from scratch as I wanted only Mandrake as the OS (read in a review that it was the best distro for multimedia).

I really need help to understand what is going on.

When you say this "I have tried some of the suggested commands but I am not really sure what to do.," you mean that you tried "startx"--minus the quotes too? Can you add more details?

Hi,

After I completed the installation clicked to reboot and a DOS-like black screen appears.

On the top it say GNU GRUB.

And also says to press TAB to view commands.

Hi

I'm not sure if there is anything I need to type in the GNU GRUB screen in order to get Mandrake to start.

Is there a command I need to enter?

Thanks for you help.

What is the recommended place to install the bootloader ?

During the installation I selected to the First sector of the drive (MBR) but these are also options:

- First sector of the root partition
- On Floppy

MBR is what you want...according to what you said earlier.
