mandrake 10.1 install problem

I am trying to install mandrake community 10.1. Downloaded ISOs from net. burned to cd. rebooted with disk one in cd/dvd drive got intro screen and upon pressing install got black screen no response from keyboard or mouse and had to do a hard boot to get out.

System is standard as follows: asus k8v se dlx, athlon 64 3000+, 2 sticks 512 meg kingston ddr 400, wd 200 gig hd, g3 ti vid card, sb live sound card

Any suggestions?

What kind of HD do you have? If it is SATA, you probably won't be able to install linux on it.

No not sata just ordinary ata. I have not seen enough advantage in current iteration of sata to pay extra for them.
