Man pages loaction


In what directory are all the man pages files located?

Most of them are in /usr/man, then in either man1, man2, mann depending on which manpage you want.

Some software builds have /usr/local as the target location defined by default. In that case the associated man pages go into /usr/local/man.

If you have the MANPATH variable in your environment, then that specifies the directories to search.
This is mine:

berhanie@machine:~$ echo $MANPATH
/usr/local/man:/usr/man:/usr/lib/java/man:/usr/share/texmf/man
It can be overridden, though. For a complete picture:
