Making the system beep

I'd like to make the system beep.
I'm ssh'd in and I'm not sure if that has something to do with it.

I tried the /a character, beep.c, curses etc, and am unable to make it beep. I just rebooted it and heard it beep as I walked away. I know it's just toying with me ...

Any ideas ?

I believe its '\a' (backslash-a, not slash-a).

If you just want to cause a beep, then you can hit Ctrl-G (Control and g
together). If you want the system to beep on certain actions, that's a
bit more complicated and depends on what you are running, and on which
actions you want to cause beeps.

im trying to write a bash script for a command line alarm clock to wake me up and to teach me somthing about bash scripting.. at the same time (more or less)... i also would like this to beep the system speeker.... lots...

i figured just puting somthing into /dev/dsp would work but it dosent seem to do anything
i cant find anything for beep or flash appart from their man pages... and all there is for curses is /usr/include/curses.h

im running fedora core 2 if that helps at all
