making remote account root over ssh

i have rsync running over ssh on cygwin to a centos 7 server
but directories are not being copied as it says permission denied...somebody told me it could be trying to copy windows permissions over to linux which cant copy them.

but when im logged onto the centos7 server i cant access them with the user account i am using, but i can with root.

what is the best way to handle this? just add the user account to the root group? or will this compromise security?

Change the owner of the directories on the server to the user you want to backup as.

hey jmgibson,

yes i checked i recursively own the entire directory structure with the same account im using over ssh
i get
*** Skipping any contents from this failed directory ***
rsync: recv_generator: mkdir "/companydata1/company1/companyOffice/Brid/Pics for MC" failed: Permission denied (13)

you think its the account on my windows server that cant access the data to copy it?

thanks for the help so far
