I'm new around here, so pls. don't be hard on me
I'm not familiar woth Linux, so i have a question regarding it.
At school we have a server running SUSE Linux.
How can i connect to the server, using an FTP connection.
At school, we have a small network, connected to the server.
At school, i just make an FTP connection in WindowsCommander, at the host name i write 'linux', and i fill in the username and password fields.
And it works.
But if i try to connect from the outside, and i enter at the host 'linux.bathory.ro', it won't work.
So how do i connect from the 'outside'???

Well, I tried to ftp your machine and it works. The problem is just the security.
If you type
> sftp linux.bathory.ro

the machine will ask you your login and passwd. But your machine does not respond to
normal ftp, i.e. if you type
> ftp linux.bathory.ro

sftp is the secure version of ftp. During a normal ftp session, when you type your passwd, a hacker can sniff it and then use it to connect to your machine. When you use sftp, the passwd is encrypted during the login and secure. When you are outside of the school, you are very vulnerable to hackers.

sftp is under Linux, rigth?

Well, there are freely available secure ftp for windows, for example
WinSCP and secureFTP. You'll find more by googling "secure FTP windows".

WinSCP is what I am used too when under windows. It's good.
