Make the Linux boot from flash card

Hi,

I need to install Fedora 3 on a 128 MB flash card.

I like to do the Kernel compilation (2.6) and copy the image in to the flash disk. Also I want to install PHP, MYSQL and mail daemon, apache and also C complier in the same flash disk. Also I want to put the /tmp and /var directories in to the RAM.(Not sure how to do it though) I have only 128MB capacity in the flash disk. So I am not sure this is something possible thing to do. If possible please advice me how to do this.

Hi, and welcome to LQ!

As for the task ... I doubt that you'll fit all this in 128MB.
As for the title: that's not a problem of the OS, but of the
BIOS that the machine has.

Cheers,
Tink

Thanks for the reply. I am using a IDE flash card. I managed to compile a kernel with size of 60MB. Now the biggest task is to install C compilers to install the rest of the applications. Whats the best way to do this to make to small and same time time make it work.

I think you need to look into a distro called Damned Small Linux. It should be perfect for what you want to do. That or try using a more streamlined distro like slackware or even zipslack if you can get away with using a less than bleeding edge kernel.

Damned Small Linux would by where I went if I needed to fit a full featured command line linux install into 128Mb. Next would be zipslack, but I'm not sure if it has been updated along with the full slackware distro.
