i am a new to linux i am using debian 4 on my laptop compaq pesario v3149tu
i want to get online through adsl modem (it uses Siemens c2110, has ethernet, usb interface )
i want to get online using either usb or eth i tried to configure it with pppoeconf but was'nt able to get online
as it was giving the chap authentication failure i tied to check username and pass words but

everything was fine i guess,
my adsl modem was detected at eth1 , i asigned it dhcp but still it was not working plz i am really

mesed up , help me out to configure my adsl modem , plz provide setp by step instructions .
and it would be really great if u guys can help me get my quantian running in my laptops resolution

Most ISPs don't use PPPoe, although there are local variations. Did you get any documentation that suggested this was the right thing to do?

The modem/router usually manages the login process with the ISP. It would normally have an embedded website that allows you to configure the passwords and other parameters. Have you set this up and did you get it right?

In reverse order, No. You might however want one if you have something like an Nvidia or ATI 'video card'. If you don't know whether you need one or not, why not stick with what you've got?
