"make install" in a custom directory ?

hi,

Because i am cross compiling busybox for an arm board and can't install directy busybox on it (it don't have apt-get/sudo/make) i tried to compile busybox with arm-linux-gcc and "make" it in a custom directory with /usr/ /bin/ sbin/ this way i could copy paste the folder and the exe in a clean root and transfert this root to my board.

Sadly i don't seems to be able to change the installation patch.
i tried with :
Code:
make install PREFIX=/home/blabla1/blabla2/blabla3
but when going into the blabla3 folder i find no file (/usr/ /bin/ and /sbin/ are present because i created them myself).

./configure can't be used because the file don't exist.

Any idea on how i could change the installation patch ?

Many projects support the DESTDIR variable which exactly does what you seem to want to achive, maybe give that a try.

probably you need to check that menu: http://busybox.net/FAQ.html#configure
or: http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/li...box/index.html

edit that makefile
and add your own install directory

or

as the README and INSTALL files likely state
copy it to where you want it
Quote:
./configure can't be used because the file don't exist.
are that any autotools files ?
-- like
bootstrap.sh
configure.ac
configure.in
makefile.am
and so on ....

The busy box makefile doesn't use the usual make install DESTDIR=/path/to/custom/install, instead it uses make install CONFIG_PREFIX=/path/to/custom/install
