Make every automount Read only

I would like to ensure that any file system that I plug in gets automounted as read only. I am referring to the plugging in of flash drives etc.
What do I need to do?

That will not take care of all possibilities.
The automount or autofs command seems to be needed, but I am yet to figure out how to use it.
