make command
 

I've just recently installed SUSE Linux 9 and when I went to use the "make" command in xterm it told me "command not found". Can anybody tell me how to fix this or why it's not found? Sorry I'm new this Linux thing. Thanks

Go in YaST and enter 'make' and select the 'provides' box. You just need to install the package that contains the make command. Be sure you also check if the gcc and glib packages are installed.

When you installed SuSE you mustn't of selected the Programming group.

install gcc, cpp, and automake
im not sure of the dependencies of these packages but just say yes when YAST asks youif you want to install the dependencies.

Thanks for the help but I dont know how to add the programming package from YAST. Where do I go to do that? Sorry but can somebody be specific I'm really new to this. Thanks

Do you have 9.1 Personal Edition? There you will not find the programming tools. You need to get them from a SuSE FTP server.

This is very easy if you add the server to your installation sources. Have a look at the suse website for a near mirror and create a new source in yast. After that, do as jschiwal has described.
