Angry MAJOR problems!

Ok, here's the storie of my Gentoo'd laptop which never let's me fix it:

First, I noticed that I couldn't open up term windows under a regular user, only in root .

I took a look at the kernel and noticed that several options that the Gentoo manual asked u to check somehow got unchecked , namely DEV FS support. Even after recompiling the kernel and copying it over several times, Gentoo still gives a 15 warning message saying that I need to load DEVFS support.

Okay....I searched the net and was told to install udev and hotplug support (and add hotplug to the default runlevel on startup). Did that, got a kernel panic with flash caps lock and scroll lock lights. Restarted, booted, but still it says I don't have DEV FS support . Does asnybody have any idea what is going on?

I tried running genkernel -all twice, and each time, after about 3 hours of compiling, it stops with an error saying:

Code:
mount: Could not find any loop device. Maybe this kernel does not know
followed by...

Code:
ERROR: Could not mount the initrd filesystem!
...and then genkernel stops, basically at the modules_install step.

I checked to see if "lo" was in place for loopback, which it was. I pulled out all my network cards just to be sure, compiled the kernel with genkernel, but still the same error. What am I doing wrong and is there anyway that I can start the compilation again at make modules_install, instead of starting with genkernel and waiting another 3 hours? Thanks!

Well, its all fixed after I read a few of my logs. For some reason my kernel (as I said b4) got messed up and a bunch of required options got deselected. However, everytime I recompiled the kernel, it never changed. So finally I realized that the /boot partition wasn't mounted, so just a quick mount and another recompile and VIOLA, all fixed, thanks a lot guys!
