major problem with apt-get and Fedora core 1
Hello all!
I've been happily Windows free for 2 months, and enjoying life very much!
I had my first bit of difficulty with Fedora Core 1 tonight. I had just installed apt-get, did apt-get update, and then I started apt-get dist-upgrade. I went into the kitchen to work on dinner, and I heard a disturbing sound from my machine. I came in to find the terminal I was using for apt-get had become completely corrupted. I was not seeing standard letters, it was a long series of very wierd symbols.
I figured no problem, I'll just rerun apt-get dist-upgrade, and now I have a problem because apt-get finds 2 versions of serveral programs. Here is the full text of what my terminal tells me:
[root@jimb jim]# apt-get dist-upgrade

W: There are multiple versions of "rhythmbox" in your system.
This package won't be cleanly updated, unless you leave
only one version. To leave multiple versions installed,
you may remove that warning by setting the following
option in your configuration file:
RPM::Allow-Duplicated { "^rhythmbox$"; };
To disable these warnings completely set:
RPM::Allow-Duplicated-Warning "false";
After this it lists about 15 more programs that have multiple versions, including yum, and openoffice. I don't want multiple versions of any of these programs - how do I clear up the "corrupted" updates that had started, and get back to single versions that can be upgraded?
Thanks for the help,
JimBass
