Major Issues Installing Phing


hi,

im new to linux and i am trying to upgrade pear so i can install phing every time i use command, pear upgrade pear i keep getting message ERROR: unable to unpack /build/buildd/php5-5.3.6/pear-build-download/PEAR-1.9.4.tgz.

same thing is happening when trying to install phing

can anyone tell me how to stop this.

What distribution. You may need to update your package database before upgrading/installing (just a guess).

11.10. which package database do i upgrade. iv been trying to upgrade so many things iv lost track
