maintenance
I've seen several references to the fact that Linux doesn't require scandisk or defrag, that's great but what (if any) maintenance does it require?
I've setup redhat 7.1 as a PDC with Apache and Samba running. I rarely touch the linux box. I use cron to cleanup tempfiles and to update and run RAV antivirus each night. I will be adding a tape backup soon and will probably use cron. That's the extent of my maintenance. Is there any daily or periodic stuff I should do for a server that's up 24x7? thanks, tom. |
you can run a scandisk, linux just bascially the way the filsystem is designed, doesn't need to be defragged. i guess the maintenance portion or your system is already taken, cleaning up files, temp files.. etc.. depending on whatever else you do.. would determine your mainetenance level.
