Mail Server Configuration

Hi All,

I am facing some problem in configuration of mail server on the RHEL-5 machine. I have a linux machine where I wish to configure send-mail server along with Thunderbird to check my official mails. Yum & DNS is configured already. My worry is that can I use another hostname for the same machine to configure the send-mail server ??
Also, if I do so, then will others be able to connect to same machine with the old host name ?? From where can I get the package for Thunderbird ? Will it be installed through a package , or will it be a .bin file type of installer ?

Any other suggestion would be a grest help....

Thank you all in advance.
Kapil.

yes, i think you can do so. mutiple hostname can be assigned be single machine. in dns create CNAME type of record for that. Your machine will be accessed by all given name, so there is nor issue of old or new hostnames.

download and install thurderbird from http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-U...rbird/all.html

thanks

Hi,

I tried the same but it seems that I am missing something b'coz I can't use two hostnames in a single machine....
I tried configuring two DNS names in a machine and thats where I screwed the whole machine, as now none of them are accessible.

Can anybody please suggest me how to configure two DNS in a single RHEL-5 machine...and what precautions need to be takenn before going for this ??

Thank You,
Kapil.

Post your DNS configs. The RHEL Deployment Guide (DNS Section) is here http://www.linuxtopia.org/online_boo...5_ch-bind.html
Basically you need to assign an A rec to one name and then a CNAME rec to the other name; see the guide.
