mail isp not seen in evolution

I'm really trying hard to get into Linux but having all these simple probs., I can get onto the 'net but no mail prog. sees my pop or smtp isp. Also, when I'm connected to the internet there is no icon indication to say so anywhere, it makes it hard to disconnect easily. Now the good news, I have two hdd's one for xp (wife) and linux and I found a nice way to select at boot up, my mb (asus a7v266) and many others I am told, has a feature not documented, if you hold down the esc key at the post beep it gives you a window to select which hd to load first. If you then reboot it will load according to the bios if you let it i.e Linux to windows in my case. Thanks in advance.

Hi there welcome to linux.
As far as i understan, you have already installed linux and its working fine ona second hard drive. You are able to connect to the internet through a dialup.
If not please give details like the distro. for eg.
When u install linux it has a boot loader lilke grub or lilo that recognizes the windows and hence you would have a choice to select from them.

If i am way off in answering ur question just ignore this reply

I can boot up with no trouble to whatever disk I choose ,the problem is getting e-mail to work in mandrake 10, I put in the same info as win. xp but it always comes back with a rejection notice or something saying that the isp is not recognised. I guess I should have said kppp not evolution. Thanks for your reply and time.
