MAIL and E-MAIL!

Can I use "mail" to send mail over the internet instead of just being limited to send it only to users on your system?

ISPs sys admins do it - "mail"ing a user will effectively be the same like "mail"ing user@their_isp.com. Can i do the same in my home linux box, or that's not the scope of "mail" ?

erm.... I tried it, that's why I asked the question in the forum. There were no errors but the email was not received at the other end...
