Mail

I am using Fedora core -2. Can't I use "mail" command to send mails to a user in yahoo.com"

My "sendmail" service is running, But I have not configured it any way After Linux was installed.

I ( as a root) tried to send a mail to a "yahoo" user , but delivery failure messages came to my mail box in linux saying

" ----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors -----
praveen_mscis@yahoo.com
451 yahoo.com: Name server timeout
Message could not be delivered for 5 days
Message will be deleted from queue "

What to do????????????

Most likely, Yahoo is refusing mail from mailservers that do not have a DNS entry (wich is probably the case for you). This is a way to reduce spam.

So you should configure sendmail to use the mailserver of your ISP as a smart host.
