Question Madreake Download Speeds

I have installed Mandrake 9.2 on a desktop computer I have. When I start downloading programs I only get 38-40KB/s total. If there are two downloads going at the sometime both downloads split the 38-40KB/s. One download speed will be 20KB/s and the other download will be 18KB/s. I gave a DSL connection that is between 100-300KB/s. Then I use my Windows computer to download the some file I get between 38-40KB/s for each download. Is there a setting that I can change to get a fester download speed? My network adapter is a D-Link DFE 550TX. Can someone please help me?

No there isn't any setting you can change unless your DSL service upgrades your bandwidth or either you call them and tell them you want more bandwidth. ie you pay more money. The nic you have should be fine.

But when I download the some files using my windows computer both of the download are at about 38KB/s with totals to 56KB/s, well when I try to download the files using Linux it will only download at a total of 38KB/s. I see that there is no setting to make my downloads faster. My DSL pipeline is mush faster then Linux is using. I have at last 100KB/s to 350KB/s; well Linux is only using 38-40KB/s.

Mostly the download speeds would depend on your provider and also the location you are downloading from and the speed of the site. I download around 400k/s. I run Slackware 9.1 and it downloads at the same speed. The only thing that I can think of is your network card is running at half duplex but I doubt that. There is not much that I can think of to do, maybe someone else will chime in if they have any info..
