machine snapper/restorer

Is there a program similar to Freeze*,that i can run on linux, taking memory snapshots and reload after unexpectable shutdowns?I ve seen it in action and it was really amazing.
These are exactly its features and what i am lookin for:"Freeze, a machine state snapper - which is a program that fundamentally takes an exact instanteous snapshot of a computer's memory and the status of any devices connected to it and saves it to disc. Later, this snapshot can be restored, bringing the machine back to that exact point the snapshot was taken. It's very ingenious and effectively cuts boot ups down to 5 seconds."

*originally developed for RISC OS

Hi mtheo, and welcome to LinuxQuestions.org.

I believe what you're looking for would be classed as "hibernation" or "suspend-to-disk" these days. It is a part of the ACPI specifications, but sometimes it is harder to impliment than others due to the fact that the ACPI specifications aren't always implimented in the same way by all manufacturers. Have a look around for ACPI and Linux and you should get somewhere.

Good luck.
