LynxOS questions

So, disclaimer first. When I say I'm a Linux n00b, I really mean it. This is the first time I've ever done anything on a linux box, so please be patient.

I just started a new job and inherited a Xerox Workcenter 5050 copier/printer. Attached to it is a PC that runs LynxOS, which seems to be a variation of linux. I have a need of getting into this box to find some NIC drivers, but I have no clue what the user name or passwords are.

I've read some stuff on the web saying it's simple to reset the admin password in linux if you're in front of the machine, but most threads have this assumption you already know the basics, of which I know zero. Single user mode? No idea how to check.

I can get to the user name: prompt, but nothing past that. Can anyone walk me through how to change this password so I can get into the box? Like simple step by step instructions? My boss is so desperate to get this done that she's willing to toss an Amazon GC to anyone that can help providing a solution...

Best way to reach me is by email: Ron@memorykings.com

Thanks!!

From what I found here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LynxOS it appears as if LynxOS is closed source. You may have to contact them would be my guess.

It seems to be commercial, found this too: http://www.lynuxworks.com/
