Hi guys

I upgraded from Fedora 10 to 11 and my second drive will not mount (/export or /dev/sdb).
Here is some details.

Like any good soldier, I backed up most of my data on /export, but not all.

Is there a way to fix and mount /dev/sdb or /export again?

you can try removing the lvm cache:

rm /etc/lvm/cache/.cache

and rebooting or rescanning:

pvscan
vgscan
lvscan

also, please post in thread the output of pvscan

I ran it as suggested, but it does not pick up my second disk.

Just to clarify, I had 2 Volume Groups, VolGroup00(/dev/sda) and VolGroup01(/dev/sdb). I do not see VolGroup01 anymore. I don't know if this is of help?

the pv should be displayed with pvscan, it looks like it lost his physical volume format, it's really wierd and problematic that something like this happens with an OS upgrade, so I strongly recommend you to open a bug in bugzilla.redhat.com, in order to diagnose what was wrong with fedora people.

I'm curious about what is wrong, please send me the output of:

pvck /dev/sdb1

and what happen if you try to do?

vgimport -f -v VolGroup01 /dev/hdb1

I did a ls of /dev and do not see the /sdb1 entry only /sdb.

Doing a fdisk -l gives me

weird, somehow udev or something like that, is not taking the first partition from you hard disk. I'm going to check what could be wrong, in the middle time. Can you paste your /proc/parttions file?

Hi Matías

Here is my dmesg.
I see that the sdb and sdb1 in the log, but later the sdb1 is not loaded.

This is so far over my head, thank you for your persistence in helping out.

The backup I made of sdb1 failed on the recovery, so it become more urgent for me to recover my lost drive.

just in case, have you tried a hardware test of this hard disk from your BIOS?
it's really weird, is there any error in /var/log/messages ? Could you paste cit completely/partially into pastebin.ca, just in case that you find something weird.

Hi Matías

Found my problem. It is well documented on the Fedora forums with 10 to 11 upgrades (I just did not know what I was looking for).

This drive was used on a promise raid card 2 years ago and I did not remove the raid meta-data from it. I booted with a Fedora 9 live CD and the drive came back to life(with a few tweaks).
