Ok, very new to all this and am having trouble with getting my head around it all.
I have a Pentium 233mhz 256mb of ram PC that I want to get running with linux. I have a specific purpose for it which is to run a PC-DC server for the sega dreamcast games console which allows the Dreamcast to use a broadband connection over dial-up using the linux machine as the server. That will really be its only purpose.
I have tried various versions of lubuntu but had to go with 10.04 in the end due to cpu limitations (cmov etc). I managed to get lubuntu to install successfully (or so it told me) but I still end up with the following:
verifying DMI pool data
error: unknown file system
This appears to be a common problem from what I can see and many people seem to solve it using the "boot-repair" disk but so far I have been unable to find a copy that works without cmov so have been unable to try it.
I have however tried using rescatux which has not helped so far. I have also tried a number of command line suggestions I have come across but nothing has had any impact thus far.
As a already said I am very new to linux, so if anybody can help I would be very grateful, but please speak sloooowly...lol
PS: I have also tried puppy linux without success other than booting from the CD despite trying both frugal and full installs...still get grub issues. I am open to alternative distro suggestions...although I don't know how this will effect my needs. Here is a link to what I eventually want to do with the machine:
