Lubuntu 12.04 Wireless Not Working

I did a fresh install yesterday. Been trying everything I can goggle. Nothing has worked so far. Now worried I've tried too many random things and gummed up the works. This is my first attempt to use Lubuntu on an older machine. I have used ubuntu (as a novice) on newer machines.

Using an Acer TraveMate 2600 running a Pentium 4 @ 2.8 GHz with 750MB RAM.

lspci output:

Cattle-egret@cattle-egret-laptop:~$ lspci -nn | grep 028002:05.0 Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Corporation BCM4306 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Controller [14e4:4320] (rev 03)
cattle-egret@cattle-egret-laptop:~$ lspci | grep -i Network
02:05.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4306 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Controller (rev 03)

Help? Suggestions?

Check out this thread...Same issue as yours....

modprobe No Response

Thanks for the reply. I did find that thread earlier and followed those instructions. The only issue was with step 3.

Nothing happened with these commands...
~$ sudo modprobe -r b43 ssb wl
~$ sudo modprobe wl

Step 3 is only for a live CD, scroll on down and see the info for installing the patch then continue on to next steps...

Found another Link that might be useful....

Hi,

I has also previously seen your second link. I everything I could find most of yesterday, got frustrated and gave up.

This morning, I installed xubuntu and ran: sudo apt-get install firmware-b43-installer. Didn't work (I'm sure I skipped a few steps). I was about to review everything, then tried: the bcm43xx-firmware_1.4-0cafuego1_all.deb That worked.

So, now I'm trying to decide, stay with xubuntu, or retry lubuntu and bcm43xx-firmware_1.4-0cafuego1_all.deb without all the other flailing...

So yesterday, I swapped out the hard drive and tried again with lubuntu. This time:

1) clean install
2) applied all updates
3) sudo apt-get install firmware-b43-installer
4) bcm43xx-firmware_1.4-0cafuego1_all.deb
5) installed apps

Everything seems to be working. And lubuntu seems to be more resource efficient than xubuntu (as others have noted).
