ls command

Probably a stupid question, but just installed Debian and when using the command line, i will type ls to display my files, but some directories have too many files and it wont let me see some of them. Is there a switch do display 1 page at a time, i know MS DOS had dir /p and dir /w.

and when i use ls --help it floods the screen so i only see the last 4 extensions which are of no use.

Try using | less (minus the space) or use ls -h
