Low System Requirement Linux
I have an old generic-brand PC. It works fine, but it has Windows ME, so I'm trying to find a Linux replacement for it. The problem is, it has only 128 mbs of RAM. It has a 500 mghz processor and the previous owner installed a PCI VGA adapter. I can find more specs if needed. Please help!

Any lightweight linux distro should work fine. SLiTaZ, Xubuntu, Debian LXDE or XFCE install, Puppy Linux, etc. Chances are most of the hardware will be fine with a standard kernel.

well, there's a few, but not many that will have the newest software, etc
a DSL-4.4.10 HD install (not frugal) runs low ram. I had Tinycore-1.4.3/2.0 on 128mb dell that worked good, just limit your apps to only a few, including Xfbdev.tce for framebuffer lappys also, if the harddrive is big enough(+4gb) a minimal slack or debian install would work too I had slack12.2 on my toshiba 7000ct 160mb ram 4gb hd with XFCE4 wm I also had debian 5.0 on it with LXDE both worked well. so, it really comes down to hd size and how much work/learning you wanna do?:) |
