Lost top icon bar 10.04

I am using Ubuntu 10.04 and I have lost the bar at the top of the desk top page so I have no applications places system Firefox wireless icon battery icon plus date time shut-down etc. I have been able to get a shut down icon but can anyone please tell me how do I get back the bar as it was.
