lost taskbar from desktop

New Acer Aspire One Netbook, running Linux Linpus.

After stupidly meddling with the Panel Manager in the Xfce Settings Manager, I ended up with five Panels on desktop and deleted all but Panel One.

Now all I have is a blank panel on the desktop instead of the original taskbar/ System Tray with all the usual controls, such as network, battery indicator shutdown, etc.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

This is linux, it's not "stupid" to play and investigate, you're supposed to do this!

You can probably repopulate your panel by R-clicking it and choosing Add Applet / Add Application. Then add things until you are happy, or don't have any more room.

Also, see here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=695260

Welcome to LQ!

Thanks, tredegar.

I tried what you suggested and the trouble is that the Panel has no right click menu - there's no way to configure it.

If I hover the pointer over the little star shaped icon at the end, a message appears saying that this item is has not yet been configured - but when I try to select it, it disappears.

I also tried the suggestion in link you gave me. That didnt work.

This sort of thing is annoying, to say the least. I am not familiar with Xfce
or "Linpus", and think I'll be giving it a miss.

There are many different versions of linux, tailored for different users and hardware, please consider trying another distro (I have an Asus EEE701 - it came with "Xandros", which, although "it worked", was rubbish. I now have kubuntu on it and it is excellent).

Please search LQ for posts by farslayer - IIRC he has link(s) in his sig to useful AAO resources. Follow them.

Oh! I just did it for you:

Good luck.

Thanks for your help

Hi tredegar,

Thanks for trying to help, its much appreciated.

I will follow the link you gave me to try and resolve my problem.

If all else fails I can restore the O/S with the DVD that came with the netbook.

Best regards,

daggan.
