Question Lost sound after ALSA reinstall

First of all, I destroyed my alsa accidently, and had to reinstall it. I used the latest driver, lib and utils from the alsa pub, and followed http://alsa.opensrc.org/index.php/Quick_Install . After that, after reboot everithing was in place, the alsamixer was working, but... there was no sound. I checked if all modules are loaded, restored all settings to their previous state, made sure im using the correct soundcard... but nothing, still no sound. Any idea what could be the problem?

No, in fact it didn't. After I ran alsaconf and started amaroK, it started playing as normal, and sound was ok, wich made me thing all is fine, BUT after a while i found out that nothing else has sound...(it seems the Xine engine is the only working thing) even the sound test in the system settings works... this problem gets stranger and stranger...
So, now i can only listen to music and nothing else works... even other players. Help please?
EDIT: Gstreamer is working too.

Start the programs that do not play sound from a terminal. Do they output some sound related-errors?

Yes, they did. Here are the errors:
Skype:
Code:
ALSA lib pcm.c:2144:(snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown PCM plughw:SI7012,0
ALSA lib confmisc.c:1286:(snd_func_refer) Unable to find definition 'defaults.namehint.extended'
ALSA lib conf.c:3510:(_snd_config_evaluate) function snd_func_refer returned error: No such file or directory
ALSA lib conf.c:3982:(snd_config_expand) Evaluate error: No such file or directory
Battle for Wesnoth ( ):
Code:
ALSA lib confmisc.c:1286:(snd_func_refer) Unable to find definition 'defaults.pcm.dmix.device'
ALSA lib conf.c:3510:(_snd_config_evaluate) function snd_func_refer returned error: No such file or directory
ALSA lib conf.c:3982:(snd_config_expand) Evaluate error: No such file or directory
ALSA lib pcm.c:2144:(snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown PCM default
error audio: Could not initialize audio: No available audio device
Sorry, but these are the two i used when i found out only xine and Gstreamer are working.
What do these mean, missing files&directories...?

How many sound cards do you have? I know that I have had issues with multiple (one on the MB and one in a PCI slot) in the past. What happens upon reboot? Also, what distro are you running?

Well it's exactly the same with me, but I've always solved this problem running "asoundconf set-default-card Live" to make my Creative primary and it always worked... although the problem might really be caused by this, as i have my vmware configured to use only /dev/dsp2 (the Creative) and it has sound now, while all other apps are changing state each reboot (even xine and gstreamer although they work nearly each time).
And, I'm using Kubuntu 7.04 (feisty).
EDIT: OK, I'm now VERY sure that the two soundcards stuff is ok, i edited /etc/asound.state manually and made Creative first... and now it's the same old way - xine, gstreamer and vmware having sound only...
