these are the sound modules in modules.conf
alias char-major-116 snd
alias char-major-14 soundcore
alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss
options snd device_mode=0666
alias snd-card-0 snd-intel8x0
alias sound-slot-0 snd-intel8x0

and this is what i get with lsmod

Module Size Used by Not tainted
snd-intel8x0 20844 0 (autoclean)
snd-ac97-codec 55836 0 (autoclean) [snd-intel8x0]
snd-pcm 67776 0 (autoclean) [snd-intel8x0]
snd-page-alloc 6552 0 (autoclean) [snd-intel8x0 snd-pcm]
snd-timer 16164 0 (autoclean) [snd-pcm]
snd-mpu401-uart 3824 0 (autoclean) [snd-intel8x0]
snd-rawmidi 14592 0 (autoclean) [snd-mpu401-uart]
snd-seq-device 4212 0 (autoclean) [snd-rawmidi]
snd 36676 0 (autoclean) [snd-intel8x0 snd-ac97-codec snd-p cm snd-timer snd-mpu401-uart snd-rawmidi snd-seq-device]

i think i need to disable the intel 8x0 and enable the snd-ac97-codec any ideas how the best way to do this?
