Lost Login Account on Red Hat 9, How do I get it back?
I think i messed around a little too much!
and i managed to expire my Red Hat 9 Account i am new to linux but i was a Windows pro, and linux is so much better than windows. But i am new to linux, and i just need help getting my account back, i tryed using the command "linux rescue" and i didnt see nothing for getting an account back so please help me someone! |
What do you mean by expire? And which account are we talking about (normal user, root)?
If you are talking about a normal user and actually messed op the expire date, do the following, as root: $ usermod -e 1970-01-01 <username> After this the account will not expire any more. |
i dont know im a newb to linux, i have no idea whjat user it is, its the main one, the one i setup linux with

Give us a bit more information if you can:
- Can you log in at all? - When and where did you try to use 'linux rescue'? - Do you remember what it is you did. If not, when did you find out (and how) that something was wrong? If you think of any other info that seems important, share it with us. |
i can not log in @ all, i tried using linux rescue but couldnt find any thing that would help me, i was playing arounmd with the Users and Members application and i must have changed something i shouldnt have

i remember i root password, i just lost my account, is there any way you can put the instructions into lamest terms and by the way, i really appreciate you helping me
|
I do not believe the root account is actually gone, but without a clue how you disabled it I won't be able to help you (I could make things worse).
Using a resque cd/diskette would be my best advise. Start from that, mount your partitions and snoop around (see the link I gave you). |
thank for trying to help me, lol, i know im a newber
|
Did you perhaps remove/change the login shell for root to something that doesn't exist - the /bin/bash bit ?
