What do you mean by expire? And which account are we talking about (normal user, root)?

If you are talking about a normal user and actually messed op the expire date, do the following, as root:

$ usermod -e 1970-01-01 <username>

After this the account will not expire any more.

Give us a bit more information if you can:

- Can you log in at all?
- When and where did you try to use 'linux rescue'?
- Do you remember what it is you did. If not, when did you find out (and how) that something was wrong?

If you think of any other info that seems important, share it with us.

i remember i root password, i just lost my account, is there any way you can put the instructions into lamest terms and by the way, i really appreciate you helping me

I do not believe the root account is actually gone, but without a clue how you disabled it I won't be able to help you (I could make things worse).

Using a resque cd/diskette would be my best advise. Start from that, mount your partitions and snoop around (see the link I gave you).

Did you perhaps remove/change the login shell for root to something that doesn't exist - the /bin/bash bit ?:confused:
