Lost links between Firefox and Thunderbird

I copied my ~/.firefox and ~/.thunderbird directories from PCLinuxOS to Bluewhite64 (Slackware derivative). Everything went fine, except the links between these two apps are broken: Firefox does not open Thunderbird when I click on an e-mail address, and Thunderbird does not invoke Firefox when I click on an URL.

How can I re-establish the links?
