Loss off sound... and volume control on panlel

I lost my sound... (it was working)
I used to change the sound with a volume contol that was in the panel...
I think I may have last set it to MUTE...
But now that control is gone....
I tried using KA mix and Ga mix.... but they complain about the sound card not installed.....
but I haven't changed any thing since it was last working... (yesterday I was geting audio notifications... and a few days ago internet radio via xmms)
in the system setting it says my volume on the sound card is set to 'nil'. (I can't chang it there I'm not root...)

AND I CAN"T FIND ANY WHERE TO CHANG THE SYTEM VOLUME :(

If you're using ALSA you can open a terminal (kde: konsole) and then type:
Code:

alsamixer
Now you can unmute channels with m and use the arrows to increase and decrease volume.
