Looking to set-up a Linux based web-server.
Hello,
I am new to linux and I would like to learn more and more things on how Live Linux servers works, also I have gone through many Linux sites, but just reading is getting bit problematic, so please can anyone recommend me to "How Can I start acquiring more pratical knowledge" that will lead me more challenges as well as broaden my knowledge in Linux Servers. Thankyou. |
"How Can I start acquiring more pratical knowledge"
Use it. have you set up a server yet? Try building a website and hosting it on your box. Try setting up a mail/ftp server while you're at it too ;) Once you get it working, try to make it secure, once you get it secure, try to compromise its security... If you can think of something, try it. Seriously, the best way to Learn is to Do. At least, in my humble opinion. |
Thanks for replying. Sorry to bother you truthfatal but can you lead me to something more regarding the server as i am totally new to configuring linux server, what next i will need to do to get it done mean to say setup ? also i am on the way to create a website.

you can start here:
try ubuntu. http://www.zegeniestudios.net/ldc/ http://distrowatch.com/ good luck! |
Using a descriptive title will get you more and better replies. "Help me" and "Please help me" dont say anything about what you need to know. A lot of people don't even bother reading something with a title like that.

I really like to thank Masonm, Billymayday to make me realise my mistakes regarding the subject-lines. The help I am getting from all the senior members is good. Hope I will be supported in the same way for my next posts as well as for the this post.

What you're suggesting is like: Q: "I need a car, can someone help me to learn to drive?" A: "Go buy an automatic Buick" Quite unrelated, eh? Cheers, Tink |
