looking for "table of equivalents, replacements, analogs of windows programs."

relative newbie, have been toying with linux for some time. i once saw a list of programs in linux which would do what another list of programs in windows would do. i'm frustrated by lack of knowledge, and lack of mentors who speak english. i don't know what programs to look for, and searching the rpm's usually gives me another name i promptly forget. a handy list would be indeed, handy. anybody know where that was? (it was a russian site, i think) or another? thank you
