Looking for modem

Hello, total newbie here.
I bought a used computer with erased hard drive for $25.00 to use as a backup/spare, and loaded ubuntu on it. Didn't plan on going online with it but have learned that I will have to if I want to install any programs.
I do not see any evidence of a modem on this computer but I could be missing something and want to be 100% sure before I think about installing one. How do I make sure there is no modem on this computer?

Thank you.

Take a telephone cord and look on the back of the machine. If it plugs into any ports, it's got a modem. However, that modem may not work under linux.

Are your two boxes wired together with ethernet? If so and your other machine is also Ubuntu, you could setup an apt-proxy on your machine with internet access.
