Okay, here's the deal. My grandma doesn't know how to use a computer, and she likes reading the newspaper...but we don't get it delivered. I'm thinking that there has to be some way to get a version of Linux that does nothing but display RSS feeds. I would install this to one of my older computers, hook it up to the TV, and be done. I have a remote control with a USB receiver that (I'm hoping) should work, and my TV has a VGA-in connection, so all i need is the software. Anybody have any ideas on what I can use?
well, you could use anything, but i'd go with Damn Small Linux or one of the other miniaturised distributions just so you won't get any gribble clogging up your older machine. you can just put the RSS reader on fullscreen or something.
i'd suggest starting by looking at Xubuntu, which is pretty small but also probably includes support for weirder hardware than DSL. by the way, that's a nice thing to be doing for your gramma - good on you, bro.
