Looking for a Quake III Arena How to

Hello there - tried Google looking for a complete Quake III how to (which files to download and how to install in Slackware 11 if possible) but have found no real good guides or at least none that hold your hand for the entire process, so if anyone knows of any?

Edit: I already have a windows .rar of Quake III Arena so I think its just a Linux installer and a few other things I need now? Plus there's the whole what to do with it all

Quote:
1) create a folder like /usr/local/games/quake3 first - have to be root to do that
su
enter root password
mkdir -v /usr/local/games/quake3

2) mount quake3 cd (depends on what distro & what system you have - most of the time this following will work just fine though
mount /mnt/cdrom

3) copy baseq3 folder off your Quake CD to your system
cp -Rvf /mnt/cdrom/Quake3/baseq3 /usr/local/games/quake3/

4) unmount q3 cd-rom
umount /mnt/cdrom && eject /mnt/cdrom

5) download Point Release for linux (look on google for linuxq3apoint-1.32b-3.x86.run file) - download it to your $HOME DIR if you want to

6) make point release .run file executable and move to quake3 folder
mv -v ~/linuxq3apoint-1.32b-3.x86.run /usr/local/games/quake3/
chmod -v +x /usr/local/games/quake3/linuxq3apoint-1.32b-3.x86.run

7) run PR Install
./usr/local/games/quake3/linuxq3apoint-1.32b-3.x86.run
just follow installation steps - it's easy with Loki-Setup

***NOTICE: you're still logged in as root (q3a will be available to all users on that system that way)

once done, make sure you DO NOT START quake - just click on exit - it's not neccessary to run it as root

8 ) log out as root
exit

9) now you can run Quake3 by typing quake3 in your terminal for example (others prefer adding launchers to your gnome/kde desktop - or like me adding an entry to your $HOME/.fluxbox/menu)
Hi, I've gotten as far as step 7 but when I type in

/usr/local/games/quake3/linuxq3apoint-1.32b-3.x86.run

I get this error

Verifying archive integrity...Error in MD5 checksums *long checksum*is different from *long checksum*

what should i do?

Yep, download again. Sometimes it happens. I've been trying to make some Sarge DVDs and I had to download the first one 3 times before the md5sums were correct.

No you're at step 5 again but you'll have to repeat the su command before that.
