looking for a distro to run on p4 1.3 with only 128mb ram
I have seen the similar threads first before i posted this one, downloading Vectorlinux standard right now with xfce to see how it goes. the trouble with this machine is that it is one of those with the rimm memory modules in it, which are way overpriced, so I am kinda stuck to the 128 megs here.
any comments/recommendations are highly appreciated
Have you tried Damn Small Linux (www.damnsmalllinux.org)? It is a powerful small size Linux distro. I am using it to power P-133MHz with 32 MB ram and 6 GB hard drive, and it works just fine. I could load OpenOffice 2.0, realplayer, and fulfill other multimedia functions.
downloaded them all, tried them all and was particularly impressed with VectorLinux, speedwise, but i think I will stick with xubuntu as i can use the .deb files from other systems i have for updates, which saves me hours of downloads. i have tried dsl too but that is a little bit too light and not so easy to use for my girlfriend. I think on a P133 it will be fine but this is still a P4 1.3Ghz. I liked VectorLinux as it flew and looked good at the same time but i am not so familiar with slackware. Not a good excuse, i know, will get back to it later.
