whoa!
thats freaky, have you tryed screwing with your bios. I would. that also could be that your monitor uses a generally uncommon Horiz-Vert sync rate. just try to get into a text install somewhow |
that looks like a classic case of resolution and refresh rate mis-match. try editing /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 (the -4 might not be there).
You will hae to ask someone else how to access it though, I'm not sure how to in your situation (I am a linux noob, but the problem is one I have seen in windows before). |
I had that same problem with an old Viewsonic monitor I aquired.
That was using some older distro, don't remember which. It has worked fine with my latest attempts. |
Mmmhmm. Looks like bad resolution/hsync and vsync settings. If it happens immediately after you hit enter to boot it up, it's probably trying to use frame buffer(and maybe bootsplash) in a mode incompatible with your monitor. I don't know how the CD boot loaders work, but try booting with the "vga = normal" option.
If it happens after X starts, then it's bad X settings. If you can get to a console(CTRL+ALT+F1(or F2-F6)) and kill X, you should be able to modify /etc/X11/XF86Config and restart X. Make sure to write down your monitor's hsync/vsync. |
thanx for all the replies!! i am setting to work on it right away
