I am not in front of my pc right now as I dont have an internet connection, and I dont have my xorg.conf file, but I was hoping that someone could help me off the top of there head.
I am running KDE 3.2 window manager on Slackware 10.1 default kerenel. I have an Nvidia GeForce 5500. I have edited my xorg.conf file to reflect I want TwinView. It does work and everything is great till I logout from user, or root.Then rather than getting back to runlevel 3 I get a black screen that looks all pixalated out, cant discern any images. The only way to get back X is to restart and then startx again. I am so sorry for not having my .conf file here , I understand if no-one can help, I just figured that maybe this has happened to somone else.

PS: My second monitor is actually a TV.

Doesn't sound like a problem with xorg.conf (to me, with my limited experience with Linux) as I think the only time it is used is when you are running the X server (runlevel 5).

I am sorry after re-reading my post, this happens after I logout from runlevel 5....should have been clearer.

Thats my point, the settings in xorg.conf are not used in anything other than runlevel 5 AFAIK so I would say the problem perhaps lies elsewhere. But as I have said, very limited experience and I've not experienced that problem, yet, I am planning on using my TV Out soon so I may end up in the same boat.

I think my issue has to do with this file as I did not have this issue untill seting up dual monitors. Let me explain in greater detail, When I boot my machine I enter into runlevel 3, I choose root as user for example, startx and all is good, untill I want to logout to switch users....thats when the screen becomes garbled.

As far as my experience goes, that means the highest refresh rate Linux will use is 55hz. 50hz might be too low for you monitor. Unless there is a specific reason it is like this I would change it too

Thank you for the quick response.Ok, far as I can remember I did have that as so before, I will certainly try that again tonight when I get home. All insight is helpfull. I should also state that the garbled mess is on both monitor and tv.

Hmm, also, although I am not totally sure, I would have thought you'd need two setups, one for each screen. Don't hold me to that because that may only be if you use multiple graphic cards...
