Question Logon Trouble

My log on window's text is abnormally large. It does not fit in the box allocated for the user name and password. I can only see only a small amount of what I try to input.

Check your settings in /etc/gdm/gdm.conf

There is a line which begins with "font=".

Of course you need to be logged in as root to edit the file.
