Login Screeen Freezes in RHEL 6.. unable to boot in X windows.

Hi guys,

I'm just months old in Linux World, So please bare with my ignorance.

I got a Rhel 6 machine, was working fine untill yesterday.
Now i'm unable to boot in X windows, able to boot into single & multiuser mode.
No error message during Boot. When login comes, screen just Freezes.
unable to use the shutdown options in the page.
But able to get the X windows, if i login using multiuser mode and give STARTX.

Thanks for your Time. Any help appreciated.

Regards
Anthony.

Then the first thing to do is check what changed since it last worked OK:
- any hardware changes,
- (re-)configuration,
- software updates.

Check syslog, Xorg, greeter and DM logs for clues:
- /var/log/{messages,secure,dmesg},
- /var/log/gdm/* (or which other greeter you use),
- /var/log/Xorg.*,
- ~/.xsession-errors*.
