login problem (/dev/tty*,ftp...)
hello,
I have a question, concerning my "login-problem". Some time ago, I read about PAM and its HOWTO, at the end I wanted to compile the source, which was given as an example, compilation was ok, but when I tried to login as "root" with the (100%) correct password , it does not work ("Not Authenicated"), also the attempt to log in as normal user failed. Some time before this happened, I "realized" that I could not log in in /dev/tty* (not as root or as any other user), now I tried to ftp localhost and also this failed (Login failed). There are several of this examples, I ' m 100 % sure that I always typed my root (user) password correctly, but what's the problem ? I hope you understand what I mean by that. --TOL-- |
If you are unable to login to /dev/tty* this is a reflection of security settings to banned everyone to log in to /dev/tty*, as for ftp you should have ftp server running on the systemin order to login intoit using ftp.
What distro are you using? |
I should be able to login to /dev/tty*, regarding /etc/securetty, how could you explain that although my pass...was right, the PAM Prog does not accept it ?
I am using Redhat 6.1 if it helps. --TOL-- |
post your /etc/securetty
along with /etc/access.conf |
What exactly have you done to get the PAM program to run? Did you create any files in the /etc/pam.d directory? You should try to return everything to the same state like it was before.
|
...
My /etc/securetty just contains tty1 to tty8 (tty1,tty2...). I don't have an /etc/access.conf.
Mik: I really would like to, but how and why could have changed it my settings ? |
hmm... I don't really know how to return everything to the same state like it was before, as I simply compiled and executed a PAM-Program, before this I could also not (always) login on ttys, although my pc (i have several ones, but the problem occured on a stand alone one) is a "standalone", not connected to the internet pc.
