login problem
 

Hello.

I am running Redhat 9.

I am having trouble logging in as root via telnet or ssh

When I login from another system and I login as root, it says login failed.

If I login as a user I can get in just fine. Then if I SU root, I can login as root just fine.

The only thing I can think of is I was advised to disable the su command to all users but the members of the wheel group. I have this setup and I can su to root just fine.

Is there anything I'm doing wrong, or can you even login as root remotely? Or are you supposed to login as a user and su to root.

Nope, its normal that you can not login as root. Security stuff and all.
