Login error with Linux
This is a unique issue that i have faced. The Linux box will not allow the user to login. It throws up an error message "Your session lasted less than 10 seconds. Contact your system admin. Check the xsession.logs for details".
I guessed it might be an issue with the gnome profile (by the way the OS is RHEL 3.0) and renamed the respective files. Still the same err message. It worked fine with my profile though. So i did a one-to-one comparision with the profile settings and saw that there was an extra dir by the name of ".Xdefaults" in the user's dir. Once i renamed that, it worked fine. Can anyone tell me as to why this could happen?? Thanks in advance. |
this has nothing to do with Linux From Scratch. Please chose your forum more carefully next time, thanks.

Can you tell us what was the last change you made before the problem came into picture?
|
The only change that i can think of is that the users were using a SUN system before they were given the Linux box.
Also the Linux WS was not picking up the correct IP for which i had to give a static IP. These were the only changes. acid_kewpie: Sorry about the wrong forum selection. |
IP might be related, not sure. I get that message when I select a window manager that is not installed or that crashes (i.e. kde not installed and trying to select at at login time)

It also happens when the permissions of your home directory are changed.
|
The only change is that i had given a static IP to the workstation.
