Logging in KDE w/out networking

I've had some problems the past couple days regarding networking and my ethernet card. I think I know how to fix this problem, however, I must disable 'network' from starting with system services. This is easy enough to do, but when I try logging onto KDE from root it hangs at 'starting system services' and when everything finally does load, it hangs (with no sign of stopping) at a blue screen. Is there a way arround this?

Also, how do I start sendmail (I must disable it or else it hangs for a good portion of time at startup) after I boot up?

thanks

it sounds like it might be a module problem in your kernel. what network card and kernel version are you using?
