I have just installed linux, and when i try to login as root it goes like this.
Computer Login: root Password: (the password i set during installation) yada yada last time logged in... You've got mail. [quirky saying] Computer Login: ROOT!!!! Password: yada yada last time logged in... You've got mail. [quirky saying] Computer Login: WHY WONT YOU LET ME LOGIN AS ROOT!?!?!?!? Password: Yeah, so i get pretty cut at this point. What am i doing wrong? Cheers. |
Hey,
You should be able to log into root by default. As the installer of the OS, the root account should be the only one there. During the install you should have alreasy picked a password. You will log in as root only. Once in, you should be able to mount your linux partition and cd/ to it. Then presumably you need to start making the configuration changes to Lilo, fstab etc. If you have used distros like Mandrake etc. before, you will have to accept that more work is involved with Slack. But you have better control and stability. But, as long as you are in as root with read-write proveleges, you should be able to whatever you want now! |
i think his problem is that it keeps booting him out
since is shows you your email message you are getting in but something is booting you back out am i right? |
That sounds about right citrus.
I have no idea how to fix it though. |
Anyone?

1) Are there any error messages associated?
2) Can you access the system in singl-user mode? 3) are you using a graphical or console login? |
No, there are no error messages associated
How do i do that? I boot off LILO and thats it. Im using LILO to get a better screen reso if that counts. Thanks alot |
